Why choose Motivated Minds?

Hi! I’m Sarah, and I established Motivated Minds because I believe that a holistic approach is the most effective way to improve wellbeing. Mental and physical health are connected. So why not work on them simultaneously with an encouraging and experienced professional who can cater to both?

I’ve created an individualised and flexible therapeutic model so you can have therapy tailored to you!

As well as being a psychotherapist, I’m also a personal trainer, and a certified Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) practitioner. I run DBT Skills groups for those who want to learn emotional regulation skills and strategies to overcome challenges and improve their quality of life.

Counselling and psychotherapy are used interchangeably as there’s only a slight difference between the two. Counselling is usually a short-term process that works on more of a conscious and practical level, on current issues you’re facing. Psychotherapy is a longer-term reflective process that involves deeper self-exploration into our psychological history, behaviour and aims to increase our understanding of ourselves and our lives. People need therapy for many different reasons. Some people have a problem they are struggling to solve, a difficult decision to make, or a challenging life circumstance they need support to navigate. Common signs that your mental health needs a boost are; difficulty regulating emotions, changes in mood and sleep patterns, higher levels of distress, change in appetite, diminished interest in things you used to enjoy, social withdrawal or isolation, and a lack of motivation.

Everyone can do with some support at different times in their lives. Sometimes it can be hard to take that first step, but once you take it you won’t look back!

Most people prefer to start off with weekly or fortnightly sessions to get some momentum, however you’re the expert in what you need! Part of the flexibility we offer at Motivated Minds is that we work with you to figure out what session spacing suits you best based on your individual situation.

The first therapy session is all about getting to know you, making you feel comfortable, and for you to see if we’re the right fit for you. You’ll be asked the general basics about who you are, about your current issues, and your hopes for therapy. There’s no pressure to have all the answers, or to open up about everything straight away if you don’t feel ready to. Starting therapy, or starting over with a new therapist can be daunting, but we get it and do our best to make the experience as easy going as possible!

Yes you can! I offer Zoom or phone sessions for those who live out of the area or are juggling a busy life.

No problem! The foundation of Motivated Minds is counselling and psychotherapy, tailored to suit your individual needs. If you don’t want to focus on your physical health, or somatic strategies aren’t for you, there’s plenty of other ways we can work on improving your wellbeing.
